CORTEC Team Helps Build Homes in Haiti

In a joint company and employee giving-back efforts, the CORTEC team again raised the needed funds for four new homes for Haiti Mission.

Haiti Mission Incorporated (HMI), a Louisiana-based international development organization, helps build sustainable projects to bring dignity, hope, love, joy and faith to the people of that country. The CORTEC has previously supported this cause, raising enough to build four homes last year; and team members have even traveled to the area to view the impact of their support.

With this year’s incredible participation from our team, CORTEC has now built 12 homes for Haitian families. We are so proud to have a team committed to giving back.

The homes built this year have touched the lives of four families who shared a bit of their stories.

Alexandra, a 32-year-old mother, has a roadside stand where she sells small items to help take care of her family. She has been living in an old tin shanty with her husband and two children. She and her husband, Joel, were finally able to purchase a small piece of property to build a home for their family. They send their deep appreciation to all who have helped make this incredible miracle take place in their lives.

Onel and his wife, Rachelle, have been living in a tin and tarpaulin shanty where they have been doing their best to take care of their only child. Onel is a fisherman and Rachelle sells items along the road and in the market. The couple lives in the village of Carrefour Caton, which is quite a distance from the church, and yet, they walk faithfully every Sunday to Mass. They send prayers and thanksgiving to all who made their new home a reality.

Eric, 70, and his wife, Madeleine, raised 11 children. They were living with three of their children and three of their grandchildren in a crumbling shack in the community of Ravine Sable. They are all farmers. Their house has been in bad shape for a long time but suffered more damage by Hurricane Matthew in 2016. They have been praying and hoping for help. They thank God that in August 2021 their prayers were answered.

Mitho is a cement mason who struggles with speech and hearing impairment. He, his wife and child having been living in a small makeshift shelter on the side of a main road. The family now has a decent home and is filled with joy and thanksgiving after their many struggles.
