Houma, La. – CORTEC has been awarded a contract to supply turnkey topsides manifolds for the managed pressure drilling (MPD) system to be installed by Marathon Oil Company on the Maersk Valiant Drillship.

The scope of supply includes turnkey design and manufacture of buffer, choke and meter manifolds to be utilized in the MPD applications. The design included the use of 3, 4 and 8 inch nominal compact, metal-seated ball valves; 3 and 6 inch orifice drilling chokes; and 3 and 4 inch orifice pressure relief valves.

This system was designed by CORTEC engineering for installation in very compact dimensional areas of the vessel by utilizing CORTEC compact valve designs. In total, the system weighs in at more than 100 tons. Drilling operations are scheduled to begin in the third quarter 2015.
