CORTEC recently concluded the shipment of two MPD manifold systems to be installed on the Seadrill West Saturn and West Capricorn Drillships. Featuring 8” Metal Seated Ball Valves and 6” Orifice Drilling Chokes, this all electrically controlled manifold system will be operated by a Safekick software system. The West Saturn will embark for a drilling campaign for Statoil in Brazil while the West Capricorn will operate for BP in the Gulf of Mexico.

Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) provides a more active well control method which utilizes a closed-loop system to aid in determining downhole pressure limits and managing the annular pressure profile accordingly. This provides for savings in drilling efficiency and time while allowing for early kick detection. MPD methods enable drilling wells in formations that might not otherwise be feasible. The CORTEC team is proud to play a contributing role with other key vendors to fulfill Seadrill’s MPD system requirements.
